Voice of Vashon (VoV)

Voice of Vashon runs two radio stations, an emergency alert system, a public access TV station, a streaming and program archive website and a smartphone app. It does all that from studios and an electronics hub located at Sunrise Ridge.

  • The new community FM radio station, KVSH, went live in October, 2014 at 101.9FM — the culmination of a 14 year story of persistence in pursuing an FCC license. KVSH programs span a spectrum from the daily live Morning Scramble show through jazz, world music, R&B and the Island Crossroads on air issues discussion forum plus live play-by-play of Pirate sports including football, soccer and basketball.
  • The VoV Emergency Alert System, supported by partners VashonBePrepared and Vashon Island Fire & Rescue, broadcasts alerts on power outages, ferry delays, road closures and vital information for Islanders in the event of a disaster. The alerts are available all day and night, year round, on 1650AM, an email subscription list, VoiceOfVashon.org, VashonBePrepared.org and streaming via the free VoV smartphone app.
  • Community television broadcasts on cable channel 21 and streaming on VoiceOfVashon.org provide creative video entertainment and information. Plus hundreds of hours of archived television on VoiceOfVashon.org.

Key to Voice of Vashon’s success has been the energy from dozens of volunteers who donate more than 7,000 hours of effort every year combined with the generous funding contributions of Island residents and businesses. Volunteers and donors have been inspired by VoV’s virtual town square, providing a place for friends and neighbors to be informed, discuss the issues of the day and be entertained through radio, TV and the Internet.
